How can I use the room?
A Premium Room can be used as occasional living space and many of our clients choose to make this into a home office, a 2nd living room, a movie room or a hobby room (for sewing or exercise for example). If you would like a bedroom, our Attic Living division can help you create a full conversion, complete with internal staircase.
Do I need council approval?
Most Premium Rooms are undertaken as Complying Developments which means no DA needs to be lodged through council. Our Building Supervisor and structural engineer certify the work complies with the Building Code of Australia. This ensures that if you do decide to sell the property, you will have no issues with potential buyers requesting this documentation.
If your home is heritage listed our architect and team have wide experience in steering the development approval with council.
How long does it take?
Once contracts are signed and a deposit is paid, the process is quick with minimal disruption to your home.
The first step is certifying the build as a complying development which takes a couple of weeks. After certification the build team gets going and on average it takes between 4-6 weeks to complete to finishings if the room has a fixed staircase. If your Premium Room has a pull down attic ladder the build will be shorter.
There is no need for you to move out of your home and our team are very experienced and sensitive to working in residential environments.
