In the Attic Ladders business, we know that not all Attic Ladders are the same. However, many of our customers are first-time purchasers so it’s good to understand what to look out for in a quality ladder.
Safety should be your number one consideration when it comes to an Attic Ladder. The product itself should feature a gentle incline, safety handrail, climbing stability and an appropriate amount of load-bearing. The installer should also have significant experience working in the roof space. The Stairladder Deluxe has a strong, stable 410kg load rating, a full-length handrail and a 57 degree gentle incline, meaning it is suitable for younger users and also those with less mobility. A ceiling handrail is provided as standard, however if you want even more piece-of-mind you can also purchase a balustrade. Bearing in mind that you will also be carrying up and down sometimes bulky items with you, all these features are very important.
Ease of use
As well as being safe, it is important that your Attic Ladder is easy to use. The Stairladder Deluxe is finger-tip operated, meaning you don’t require much muscle to operate it at all! It has side-assisted springs and you open and close using a simple pole which is provided. Simply keep in a cupboard for when you want to access your storage space. Additionally, the Stairladder Deluxe has nice wide and deep treads so you can climb up and down without missing a step. The ceiling panel is on a hinge system which when opening falls away from the ladder making it easier to get up and down. If you are worried about the opening space, the Stairladder Deluxe gives you a 700mm wide opening as standard and you can upgrade to a 900mm opening if desired.
Materials and finish
If you are like the majority of our house-proud customers, the quality of materials and the finish is also very important in your selection. The Stairladder Deluxe is a beautiful ladder made in Sydney, Australia in the Attic Group Tempe factory from Australian premium grade hoop-pine. We refer to the finish as “furniture grade”. If it is important to you that the ladder matches your other wooden furniture, you can order a special finish in Walnut, Jarrah, Cypress or Brushbox (allow 3 weeks to installation for this feature). In any case, the ladder is double lacquer coated for a high quality appearance and fitted with rubber feet to protect your floor.
Other things to look out for:
Check your the hatch on your preferred ladder to ensure it offers sound and thermal insulation. The Stairladder Deluxe passes this test with flying colours.
Ceiling height and roof type is also important, hence why we come to your home for a consultation. The Stairladder Deluxe suits ceiling heights up to 3.5 metres and can be cut to size to fit. It is suitable for regular roofs and is arguably the best Attic Ladder in the world.
